In 2017, amid moving to a new area, getting married, buying a first home and making plans for a family, Kyle Peter also was looking for a new career. A friend offered him a part-time job cleaning pools.
“The home we bought had a swimming pool, and I loved netting leaves,” he says. “I thought [cleaning pools] could be my next opportunity, and at the [very] least, I would learn pool chemistry.”
Peter was cleaning 40 pools a day, all while juggling his existing full-time sales job. By the spring of 2019, Peter had left his pool cleaning job and built a service route for the business he started, Nevergreen Pools.
“I can remember being at trade shows for my [sales] job and having to step into the aisles to take Nevergreen Pools customer calls,” he says. “It was a hard grind, but I had a bigger vision.”
By that summer, Peter left his sales job, officially joining the pool industry full-time. The business grew steadily, with Peter hiring his first employee and expanding into a warehouse in 2020.
Peter credits hard work, a dedication to excellence and a commitment to customer service for the success his business saw over the next few years. Nevergreen Pools became a warranty station for industry leaders like Jandy, Pentair and Hayward. Today, the company employs 14 people, operates 12 vehicles and services 600 pools weekly. Peter is passionate about nurturing talent in the company and promoting from within; several employees who began as service techs now hold key positions within the company.
Peter wants Nevergreen to set the bar for excellence and offer support for other area companies. “We have established new practices and been an open book for competitors to follow suit,” he says. “We believe a rising tide lifts all boats.”
