Brad Bryson got his feet wet working as a lifeguard for the City of Brampton. In 2004, he was hired as a seasonal lifeguard for PPL Aquatic, Fitness & Spa Group and over the past 17 years has held a variety of positions: recreation coordinator, service technician, new construction technician, division assistant manager, pool consult, division manager and B2B sales manager.

In November last year, Bryson was offered the opportunity to buy into PPL Aquatic, and he is now vice president, primarily working with the company’s municipal sales division and commercial hot tub manufacturing division (HydroTher).

Bryson is a certified CPO instructor for the PHTA and has been teaching CPO classes since 2010, earning the Most Certified Individuals Internationally award in 2016 and the Milestone Award in 2018.

He’s also been on the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada’s board of directors for four years. He was president of his chapter in 2020 and nominated for national vice president this year. Additionally, he volunteers with the Pool Council as chair of the national education committee and co-chair of the national technical committee.

“In Canada specifically, finding employees with any kind of training [in the pool industry] is difficult because there are [few] educational opportunities available to them and the industry is more seasonal in our area,” Bryson says. “I am very proud to be working with a group of individuals [at the Council] who also want to do their part to help change this.”

Bryson says the Council has worked hard to market the industry as a viable career option and to create new educational opportunities for the Canadian pool industry.

“I hope to continue in the pool industry until the day I retire,” Bryson says. “I hope to provide excellent service to customers across North America and create an environment where individuals who work for us attain lifelong careers and learn to appreciate the industry as much as I do.”
