DOE Issues Rule for Dedicated-Purpose Pool Pump Motors

The U.S. Department of Energy published a final rule about energy conservation for dedicated-purpose pool pump motors, or DPPPMs, with an effective date of Nov. 27, 2023. The rule requires manufacturer compliance for three categories of motors:

  • Compliance with the new standards established for DPPPMs with greater than .5 total horsepower is on and after Sept. 29, 2025.
  • Compliance with the new standards established for DPPPMs with greater than or equal to .5 total horsepower but less than 1.15 total horsepower is required on and after Sept. 28, 2027. 
  • Compliance with the new standards established for DPPPMs with greater than or equal to 1.15 total horsepower but less than 5 total horsepower  is required on and after Sept. 29, 2025.
