Ask the Experts: How Can Pool Pros Keep Their Competitive Edge?

may ask the experts 1200 x 800

In this day and age, technology evolves fast, even in the pool world. With things like pool automation systems changing customers’ expectations, it can sometimes feel overwhelming to keep up with the industry. But it doesn’t have to. To explore the different ways Pentair Pool sets up pros for success, we sat down with Scott Parker, Regional Trainer Manager of the West Territory, to discuss everything from digital modules to in-person events… and why these resources are so valuable in the field.

Question: What tools and resources would you recommend to new builders and dealers interested in learning more about new products from Pentair Pool?

Parker: There’s so much available to set you up for success. The first is Pentair Partners – its learning management system has some great on-demand learning modules. Of course, anytime you can secure a manual, whether from BigTinCan or with the equipment, that’s another great resource.

The next would be our fabulous apps – that’s a great digital toolbox to get you started. But I would start with Pentair Partners first and foremost. There, you’ll find a listing of any and all upcoming training events in and around your area, including trainings at trade shows.

Question: Why is it beneficial for our dealers to attend a Pentair Pool training?

Parker: You get several different things out of it! First, you get a hands-on look at our products. It gives you the ability to actually touch a new product and pick it up. I don’t know about you, but even with how great online shopping is, there are still a few items where I like to actually be tactile with it and touch it. The training events allow you to do that.

You end up getting to network with other companies in your area that aren’t necessarily a competitor, but a collaborator to talk and brainstorm with. Then, you also get to meet and greet Pentair representatives that you don’t normally come into contact with. At the training events, we also try and go above and beyond with things like basic hydraulics, basic electronics. We’ll try and bring in a chemistry expert to talk about some chemistry within the pool, for example.

We have a workbook that you’ll receive if at the training seminars. It’s a collaboration between us trainers, sales, and service. To bring it to life, we listen to what sales and service are taking phone calls on the most. A lot of times, it’s regionally specific, as different regions will have different issues to address, so the classes and resources will be tailored to your area’s needs. I call the workbook our “big book of knowledge,” and it either comes out as a paper copy or a digital download on your phone or tablets for when you’re out in the field. It’s an excellent source of current information to keep your skills sharp and stay ahead of the competition.
