Obituary: Joseph Edward Diedrich
Joseph Edward Diedrich, a respected technical services leader in the cement industry and a member of the National Plasterers Council, died April 21, 2025, after a battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. He was 63.
Diedrich, of Knoxville, Tennessee, most recently served as manager of technical services at Federal White Cement, where he acted as a key liaison between sales and production across the U.S. and Canada. He joined the company in 2018 after 28 years with Cemex. He was widely respected for his technical expertise, generosity with his knowledge and dedication to industry research through his work with the NPC.
Born September 3, 1961, in Alpena, Michigan, Diedrich served in the United States Air Force from 1981 to 1985, reaching the rank of senior airman. After earning a degree in concrete technology, he built a decades-long career in the cement industry.
Known for his friendly demeanor, dry wit and steady presence, Diedrich was deeply connected to his faith and family. He found joy in nature, woodworking, hunting, fishing and sharing his love for woodcutting with his grandchildren. His strong work ethic, quiet confidence and willingness to speak his mind left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara; four children, 11 grandchildren and nine siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings and grandson Silas.
A visitation and funeral service was held on April 29. Private burial will take place at a later date.
