Raymond da Rosa - 2024 30 Under 40

Since 2007, Raymond da Rosa has worked across various segments of the pool service industry, including residential maintenance, chemical treatment and equipment repair and installation. Today, he co-owns Golden State Pools.

“I had the opportunity to work for one of the oldest companies in San Diego, Pacific Chemical, where I gained extensive experience,” he says. “One day, I asked the owners for a raise and they told me no. I then told them I was going to start my own pool company, and they asked how they could help. That’s how Golden State Pools was born. Fast forward five years, and I now own the very company that gave me my start in the pool industry.”

Today, da Rosa runs Golden State Pools with his best friend, Nick LaPointe.

“My passion for ensuring safe and enjoyable swimming and my commitment to quality service and customer satisfaction have driven my career,” he says.

Da Rosa’s dream is to focus on growth, innovation and community impact.

“Our aim is to expand Golden State Pools to offer a wider range of services, including advanced water treatment solutions, eco-friendly pool options and comprehensive maintenance packages,” he says. “This will allow us to cater to a broader customer base and meet the evolving needs of pool owners. Embracing the latest technological advancements in the pool industry is also a key goal. This includes integrating smart pool systems, energy-efficient equipment and automated maintenance solutions.”

While broadening the company’s service offerings is a priority for Golden State Pools, it’s equally important for the business to strengthen its ties to the community.

“We aim to engage in local initiatives, support youth sports programs and contribute to other local projects,” da Rosa says. Building a strong connection with the communities we serve will be a cornerstone of our business. We hope to leave a lasting positive impact, ensuring that Golden State Pools remains synonymous with quality, innovation and trust for years to come.”

Da Rosa’s favorite thing about working in the pool industry is the relationships he has built over the years.

“From loyal customers to dedicated colleagues, to distributors and company representatives, each relationship adds a unique and rewarding dimension to my work,” he says. “The trust and rapport developed with clients and camaraderie with my team and friends in this industry create a fulfilling work environment.”

Da Rosa wants to see elevation of professional standards and recognition of pool service technicians to match those of other established service industries, such as electricians and plumbers.

“Anyone can become a ‘pool guy,’ but only through education, training, certification and proper licensing can you truly become a pool service professional,” he says. “I would advocate for mandatory certification and comprehensive training for all pool service technicians.”
